About Marijo
Our first home came with a little house and a big yard – perfect for planting my first garden. And, ever since that first garden, I’ve dreamt of having my own flower farm.
Over the years friends and family listened patiently (or pretended to) about my dreams and plans for the flower farm, but a lot more gardens, four kids and a couple of dogs later it still hadn’t happened.
From the Flower Farm to Corporate America
So, with the flower farm on the back burner and a growing family, a friend convinced me to take a job in Corporate America.
Not sure what I was getting into, I enthusiastically jumped in and quickly learned Corporate America wasn’t talking about gardening or flower farms. But that didn’t deter me from spreading the word to my new colleagues.
They too listened patiently (or pretended to) about my gardens and dreams of owning a flower farm someday.
In between spreading the good gardening word, I also had to learn a lot about how big business worked and I learned a lot.
My diverse experience of over the next 15 years in my new role afforded me the opportunity to develop a solid background in communication planning, content development and technology.
In order to support the information management needs of many different groups, I developed a strong working knowledge of multiple technology platforms, applications and tools that allow me to reach a variety of audiences.
As a Web Marketer and Copywriter, I managed multiple websites and marketed new ideas by providing effective marketing and web content strategy including content creation, social media and email marketing.
I designed, developed and maintained websites to function as a resource for educating and supporting consumers.
Also, having had the opportunity to facilitate multiple trainings across a large company allowed me the experience of interacting and collaborating with many diverse groups, developing job aids, handouts and other supporting materials for the training and education.
Back to the Flower Farm
I learned a lot from Corporate America that made me a better Web Marketer and Copywriter, but after a while it was time to get back to gardening and dreaming about the flower farm.
Since, in addition to being a content marketing strategist, I am also a Master Gardener, I decided I could effectively combine my hands-on knowledge of the garden industry with technology to share information about gardening through websites, e-mails and social media.
And so, I started my freelance career launching Griffin Anderson Communications to help you grow your garden industry business with individualized digital marketing strategies.
My online marketing training includes completion of multiple Copywriting & Marketing Programs at American Writers & Artists Inc.’s (AWAI) including:
UX Copywriting Mastery
Web Copywriting 2.0
Social Media Marketing
SEO Copywriting Success
Accelerated Copywriting
Content Marketing
I also have degrees in Management & Business and Mathematics from DePaul/Barat College and studied in the Written Communications Masters program at National-Louis University.
My emphasis is on promoting sustainable products and services to support organic gardening, and the buy-local, buy fresh movement
